7&UP Club

The team at Torres Orthodontics is committed to answering any questions you may have about early orthodontic treatment for children and helping you to feel at ease with upcoming plans. We are passionate about the importance of orthodontic treatment as a child, as IF NEEDED it can help prevent the need for treatment as an adult, extractions, and surgery.

If no issues requiring immediate attention are found, that's great! Your child can join our free 7&UP Club, which doesn't require a referral. This membership ensures your child receives free follow-up observation appointments until they're ready for treatment. Plus, they can have some fun participating in special prizes and contests along the way.

Does my child need early orthodontic treatment?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children see an orthodontist as early as seven. If your child has difficulty with any of the following, bring them in for a consultation:

  • Early or late loss of baby teeth (your child should typically start losing teeth around age five, and will have all their permanent teeth around age 13)
  • Difficulty chewing and/or biting
  • Mouth breathing
  • Your child continues sucking their thumb after age five
  • Speech impediments

  • Protruding teeth (the top teeth and the bottom teeth extend away from each other)
  • Teeth that don’t come together in a normal manner or even at all
  • Shifting of the jaw when your child opens or closes their mouth (crossbites)
  • Crowded front teeth around age seven or eight

Braces

Torres Orthodontics is proud to be a leading braces provider for Westchase, Citrus Park, Town and Country and Tampa Bay, Florida. Our team loves helping people of all ages straighten their teeth, realign and correcting their jaws resulting in a big, bright, and beautiful smile!

Traditional metal braces are the most common type and are more comfortable today than ever before. Made of high-grade stainless steel, they straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. With metal braces, you can add fun colored elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile!

Ceramic braces are made of transparent materials and are less visible on your teeth than metal ones. For this reason, an orthodontist will often use them on older teens and adult patients. These highly durable, comfortable, and discreet-looking braces can be a great fit for patients of all ages. Contact Torres Orthodontics today for your consultation to determine what type of braces are best for you.

Leading the Way

We believe in providing you with the latest in effective orthodontic care. Here’s how we do it:

Customized braces are personalized orthodontic appliances designed uniquely for each patient's dental structure. Utilizing advanced technology, these braces offer a more precise fit, faster treatment times, and aesthetic options, providing a comfortable and effective path to a beautifully aligned smile. We are excited to partner with Klowen’s Stride to provide this orthodontic advancement to all our patients.

Now, you can discreetly straighten your teeth more efficiently than ever before. At Torres Orthodontics, our team can fabricate your clear aligners in our very own clinic, meaning you can begin your orthodontic treatment more quickly, conveniently, and affordably than ever before.

One of our most popular technologies is the 3D digital scanner. We can quickly scan your palate and teeth to create highly effective models and images. These are then used to develop your treatment plan, create custom appliances, and give you visual treatment simulations that portray how your smile will look at the end of treatment.

Known for providing maximum results while being minimally invasive, the Diode Laser can remove excess gum tissue to expose more of the tooth’s surface for better aesthetics and function.

The Carriere® Motion Appliance works to correct misaligned bites in the back teeth before getting braces or clear aligners, which can help reduce total treatment time. The appliance is simple to place and, for some patients, could be an excellent alternative to surgery.

Life After Orthodontic Treatment

You’ve worked hard for your beautiful smile, your braces have been removed and your teeth are beautiful and straight – now let’s keep it that way! To keep your smile looking its best it is critical to wear your retainers to preserve and stabilize your results.

Teeth do not know they are done moving when the braces are removed so retainers are needed to control or limit potential changes in tooth position. They are used after braces treatment to hold teeth in their correct alignment while the surrounding gums, bone, and muscle adjust to the new positioning of your teeth.

Retainer Wear & Care Instructions

  • Wear your retainer at all times, until the doctor instructs otherwise.
  • Take your retainer out when eating, and always put it back in its case! (Most appliances are lost in school lunchrooms or restaurants)
  • Clean the retainer thoroughly once a day with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Use warm but not hot water. Brushing retainers removes the plaque, and eliminates odors. Efferdent® or other orthodontic appliance cleaners can be used but do not take the place of brushing.
  • When your retainer is not in your mouth, it should ALWAYS be in its case. Pets love to chew on them!
  • Initially, you may find it difficult to speak. Practice speaking, reading, or singing out loud to get used to it faster.

  • Retainers are breakable, so treat yours with care. If your retainer gets lost or broken, call us immediately.
  • If you have any questions or concerns about your retainer, or you believe it needs adjusting, call us. Do not try to adjust it yourself.
  • Always bring your retainer to your appointments.
  • Retainer replacements are expensive, but with proper care they will last for years!
  • Remove your retainer when you go swimming.
  • Keep retainers away from hot water, hot car dashboards, pockets, the washing machine, and napkins.
